Southern California is home to the Africanized Honey Bee (AHB). They are almost indistinguishable from the European Honey Bee in appreance but very different in behavior. AHB are many times more aggressive and usually are larger in numbers per swarm. When disturbed or threatened massive numbers of AHB go on the offensive making this species one of the deadliest insects in North America.
Swarming bees on the exterior that appear on trees lying low to the ground may move to a safer nesting site with 48 hours so do not panic if a swarm appears one day close to home. The real concern comes when bees find access to a wall void and begin to nest. They build up to 1 pound of honey comb per day so elimination and removal should never be delayed once the activity has been determined.
We have AHB certified technicians and general contractors trained in both kill and live removal of AHB and EHB. We recommend the removal of honey comb after every kill or live removal to prevent future bees from drawn to the area as well as rodents and ants.
